Ben Ringer

Education: Bachelor Degree of Music from Mannes College of Music

Teaching Course: Piano, Clarinet, and Guitar

Mr. Ben Ringer is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music with Bachelor Degree in Music Performance, where he was a student of David Krakauer.  A native of Portsmouth, VA, he is also a graduate of Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts (VSA) in Norfolk.  Since arriving in New York, Mr. Ben has performed with ensembles including The Mannes Orchestra, The Mannes Opera Orchestra, The Chelsea Symphony, The New York Youth Symphony, Ensemble 212, and Alaria at venues including Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall.

Mr. Ben started playing piano and guitar when he was very young, followed by clarinet at age 11.  He was a student of the Air Force Band’s principal solo clarinetist, Patricia Fritz, during his time at GSA.  He was a winner of the 2002 GSA Concerto Competition, and recipient of the 2004 John Philip Sousa Band Award, awarded annually to an outstanding wind, brass, or percussion student.  He attended the Brevard Summer Music Festival in 2002, where he studied with Eric Ginsberg and Steve Cohen.  As a guitarist, Mr. Ben was an active performer.  He regularly performed with the Church Land High School Jazz Band and the country band, Bridges.  In addition to his profession on clarinet and guitar, Mr. Ben also studied piano at Mannes College with Miriam Kartch-Hughes.

Besides being a performer, Mr. Ben also devotes his career in education.  He is currently the clarinet and piano teacher at P.S. 166 on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and was a former clarinet and guitar teacher at C.C.B. School at Douglaston, NY.  To Mr. Ben, the meaning of teaching is to bring wonderful music to students’ lives.  He believes that music is a bridge that connects different parts of the world and souls.  Mr. Ben strongly emphasizes on building a solid musical foundation.  It is the only way to the professional path.
