Juan Calderon

Education: Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music

Teaching Course: Guitar, Compose, Piano

New York based composer and guitarist, Juan Calderon, was raised in Colombia.  He holds a Master Degree of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of Susan Botti in Composition, and Electronic Music with Joel Chadabe.  The work of Mr. Juan speaks a unique language that blends elements from his musical experiences in Colombia, being a member of various folk, rock ensembles, and his studies in Eastern Asian music fuelled by travels and interaction with musicians and artists in China, Japan, and Indonesia.  Mr. Juan’s music has been performed throughout South America, the United States, and Southeast Asia.  His piece for electric bass and keyboard, “Glue Pain Ghost”, was invited to a world premiere at the GEISAI Art Festival in Tokyo, Japan, and the Art Basel Festival in Miami, Florida.

Mr. Juan is an experienced music teacher in guitar, composition, and jazz music.  He is familiar with the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) examination, and many of his students have received outstanding grades in the musical examinations.  Mr. Juan’s focus in music education is to develop student’s understanding of music, and his goal is to pass on all of his knowledge and passion to each student.
